A special comment about Rudolph Giuliani’s remarks at a Lincoln Day dinner in New Hampshire:

Since some indeterminable hour between the final dousing of the pyre at The World Trade Center, and the breaking of what Sen. Barack Obama has aptly termed “9/11 fever,” it has been profoundly and disturbingly evident that we are at the center of one of history’s great ironies.

Fascist America, in 10 easy steps

Article in “Guardian” magazine (http://www.guardian.co.uk)

From Hitler to Pinochet and beyond, history shows there are certain steps that any would-be dictator must take to destroy constitutional freedoms. And, argues Naomi Wolf, George Bush and his administration seem to be taking them all.

Last autumn, there was a military coup in Thailand. The leaders of the coup took a number of steps, rather systematically, as if they had a shopping list. In a sense, they did. Within a matter of days, democracy had been closed down: the coup leaders declared martial law, sent armed soldiers into residential areas, took over radio and TV stations, issued restrictions on the press, tightened some limits on travel, and took certain activists into custody.

Windows Vista flops in China

Friday, April 20th, 2007

SOFTWARE GIANT Microsoft has only managed to sell 244 copies of its flag-ship operating system Vista in the huge Chinese market.

Vole spent millions advertising its next generation OS ‘Windows Vista’ in behind the bamboo curtain and even stuck up a 421 metre ad on the Jin Mao tower in Shanghai China.

Blackwater: The Rise of the World’s Most Powerful Mercenary Army

Saturday, April 14th, 2007

Very insteresting book.  Recommended.

Meet BLACKWATER USA, the world’s most secretive and powerful mercenary firm. Based in the wilderness of North Carolina, it is the fastest-growing private army on the planet with forces capable of carrying out regime change throughout the world. Blackwater protects the top US officials in Iraq and yet we know almost nothing about the firm’s quasi-military operations in Iraq, Afghanistan and inside the US. Blackwater was founded by an extreme right-wing fundamentalist Christian mega-millionaire ex- Navy Seal named Erik Prince, the scion of a wealthy conservative family that bankrolls far-right-wing causes.

Iran dumps U.S. dollar

Friday, April 13th, 2007

Interesting article on Iran.  Is US press avoiding the subject?

While the world press has focused on Iran’s plans to move ahead with enriching uranium, Tehran continues to wage economic war against the U.S. dollar behind the scenes.

Tehran has reached a decision to end all oil sales in dollars, according to statements by Iran’s central bank governor, Ehrabhim Sheibany, in Kuala Lumpur at the end of last month.

Zhuhai Zhenrong Trading, a Chinese state-run company that buys 240,000 barrels of oil per day from Iran, approximately 10 percent of Iran’s 2.2 million barrels per day total output, has confirmed a shift to the euro for its Iranian oil purchases.

Playground in Fort McMurray

Thursday, April 12th, 2007

Some people build swimming pools in their back yards, but outdoor pools in Fort McMurray just won’t work. Since  this  particular family lives on the outskirts of Fort McMurray, they decided to   build a sturdy, colorful playground for their 3- and 4-year-old  sons, with  smooth-stone gravel all around it to avoid knee scrapes  and other  injuries. They finished building it on Saturday evening,  and the following  morning, as mum was about to wake the boys and let  them go out to  play in their new play centre, this is what she saw  from the upstairs  window.  (Full size photos inside)
